MHD Watches is an independent British microbrand founded in 2014 by renowned automotive designer Matthew Humphries. Best known for his brilliant tenure as the Chief Designer for the iconic Morgan Motor Company—where at just 21 years old he penned automotive masterworks like the Morgan Aeromax, Aero Supersports, and the modern 3-Wheeler—MHD directly fuses high-end car styling with horology. Operating out of the United Kingdom, MHD doesn’t just take the lazy approach of simply slapping a car logo on a dial. Instead, it is one of the exceptionally rare brands where the exact same pen that designed legendary sports cars physically shapes every facet of the watch case.
MHD’s visual signature is characterized by a minimalist industrial look, hard geometric edges, and a modular, automotive-chassis case construction. Rather than using standard off-the-shelf round cases, they produce complex, multi-piece exoskeleton cases (often a 4-piece layered setup) where the outer chassis itself forms the fixed lugs, wrapping around a knurled inner barrel that mimics an engine cylinder. Dials lean heavily into the golden era of motorsport dashboard instrumentation—employing three-dimensional depth, sloping chapter rings and laser-cut sandwich dial structures reminiscent of classic lightweight racing components.

I was lucky enough to meet Matthew and MHD watches at a recent watch show. All there watch range are impressive but the one that stole the show for me was the upcoming MHD-10 with its unique case design and Grey/Orange dial combination.
