Welcome to This Watch Journey.
Who am I? I’m Dan, a UK-based (Birmingham) watch enthusiast. I’m an honorary Brummie, having moved here in 2019 from my hometown of Northampton. I have two wonderful children, both girls, and a loving, supporting and extremely tolerant wife! I love watches. It’s gone from an interest, to a hobby, to an obsession, to a passion.
My watch history/experience is still fairly amateur. I’ve been calling myself a collector for about 2 years now, buying mainly affordable watches, i.e. Casios, Timex, etc along with a few AliExpress specials and some microbrands too. Earlier this year, I decided to start sharing my watches and Journey as an (amateur 😁) watch collector on social media, from the smart watch and a Rotary that started the journey through to my grail or dream watches. (a 1970’s Omega Speedmaster MKII or the Seamaster Aqua Terra with the teal dial in case you wondered!)
What’s in my collection? So I have a range, from affordable Casios. Watches from known brands like Citizen, Seiko. Some sentimental watches that are permanent fixtures in my collection, and Microbrands. Lots and lots of Microbrands! My collection usually contains about 25-35 watches at anytime so plenty to review and share on here!
So why this site? I’m not one for face-on-camera talking about a watch, I prefer the written media! So this site feels like the natural progression from the social media accounts. I wanted somewhere I could share more detailed reviews on watches outside of flashy(ish) video posts. Somewhere I can talk about the look and feel of the watches, their pros and cons, what I like and what I don’t like. I also wanted to help people learn about watches by sharing guides for beginners, or information on new brands or new watches I’ve found, along with articles about my own personal journey and what I’ve learnt since getting into this hobby. I hope it can be a useful resource for all things watch, and that I can provide fair and informed reviews.
What’s it all about? The hope is that this site might help someone find a great watch (or avoid a bad one!) or discover a new brand they hadn’t seen before. Or maybe it will help a brand reach a new audience, or help someone understand types of watches or movements. There is no grand plan; I just hope it’s useful and enjoyable (as a website can be!) This site will not be perfect; it will always be a work in progress, but please take a look around, read a review or guide, share a comment or drop me a message. I want the good and bad so if you like a review or hate it, let me know. After all, I am not a watch expert with years of experience in the business I am just one guy with a passion for watches and a story to tell that he hopes others might enjoy reading.
