Zealandic Watches is an independent, nature-inspired microbrand founded in 2021 by mechanical engineer Derek Chuan in Auckland, New Zealand (Aotearoa). Driven by a passion for industrial precision and deep outdoor exploration. Zealandic operates as a pure, tightly curated love letter to the dramatic landscapes of New Zealand’s South Island, utilising highly specialised textures and regional colours to capture the raw spirit of alpine, maritime, and cultural heritage.
Zealandic’s visual signature is entirely original, defined by its incredible dial depth, clean symmetrical layouts, and organic natural forms. The brand’s defining feature is its deeply textured, wave-patterned dials that mimic the organic, fractured walls of glacial ice caves, accented exclusively by a minimalist logo at the 12 o’clock position (a custom emblem blending mountains, waves, and the traditional Māori Koru symbol). Their robust 316L stainless steel cases feature crisp horizontal brushing with polished chamfered bevels, drilled lugs for easy strap swapping, and an oversized screw-down crown. For low-light visibility, they deploy premium Swiss Super-LumiNova C3 BL Grade X1, carefully tuned to emit an enchanting ice-blue glow reminiscent of New Zealand’s famous Waitomo glowworm caves. Every timepiece is rounded out by a highly detailed, laser-engraved caseback mapping Aotearoa, the Tasman Sea, and the Pacific Ocean.

All three variations of the Zealandic Icebourne look great. The textured dial pattern really stands out. If pushed I’d choose the Pounamu Green dial.
