Yuen

Yuen is a highly stylised, design-driven independent microbrand founded in 2025 in Shenzhen, China, by mechanical engineer and passionate watch collector Joo Yuen (widely known in the community as JY). Born out of a desire to establish a creative outlet for high-end material exploration. Yuen has produced a classical dress watch with intricate artisan dials and absolute consumer cost transparency, intentionally stripping away hidden fees and transactional friction from the microbrand purchasing experience.

Yuen’s visual signature is entirely original, defined by intricate dial artistry, avant-garde case architecture, and a masterful play of color and light. The brand is renowned for its hand-assembled mother-of-pearl (MOP) marquetry dials, where individual tiles of mother-of-pearl are meticulously hand-tessellated by a single artisan into a striking geometric mosaic before receiving a moody fumé gradient overlay. To achieve a perfectly seamless finishing contrast between alternating brushed and polished surfaces, Yuen utilizes a complex, proprietary four-piece modular case construction rather than a standard stamped block. This setup features sculptural, horn-shaped cornes de vache lugs machined onto a separate baseplate and secured internally via screws. Furthering its clean, text-free aesthetic, the dial features a subtle, custom-designed geometric logo index integrated uniquely at the 8 o’clock position—a clever cultural nod to the auspicious Chinese number that anchors the dial’s symmetry.
