Xeric Watches is a highly avant-garde independent American brand founded in 2013 by Mitch Greenblatt and Andrew Greenblatt in California. Originally starting as the founders behind Watchismo (a curated online store dedicated to rare, unusual mechanical design timepieces), they launched Xeric via a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign to bring atypical, high-concept horology to a wider audience. Operating out of the United States, Xeric completely rejects traditional three-hand styling. Instead, the brand acts as a democratic incubator for structural, space-age concept pieces, wandering-hour complications, and kinetic dial architecture that feels closer to sci-fi control panels or orbital instruments than standard wristwear.
Xeric’s visual signature is defined by complex, atypical time displays, deeply dimensional multi-layered dial structures, and a distinct obsession with celestial and retro-futuristic themes. The absolute calling card of the brand is its mastery of unconventional time-telling mechanics—replacing traditional centre hands with rotating planetary discs, sweeping halos, and wandering-hour prisms. Their designs feature massive, ultra-domed Hesalite or sapphire crystals that create an architectural “aquarium” effect over the dial, paired with incredible, multi-colored applications of Swiss Super-LumiNova that mimic glowing starfields or nebulae in low light.
TWJ Favourite Watch
Xeric watches are fascinating thanks to their ‘out there’ space-inspired designs. Scanning their vast catalogue, watches like the Vendetta II Automatic wandering hour look like they were designed for this brand, with its gunmetal and purple stylings, and the wandering hour hands are fascinating. My watch of choice, though, is the Xeric Retroscope Jump Hour in Grey and Yellow. A unique quartz jump-hour movement that almost resembles a car rev counter, with the minutes arching over the hour display window. It makes it interesting and makes it stand out without looking too over the top.
