Wancher is a highly stylised, design-driven independent brand founded in 2005 by Taizo Okagaki in Bungotakada, Oita Prefecture, Japan. Originally gaining a global reputation as a premier boutique fountain pen maker. Wancher pays homage to traditional Japanese artisanal heritage, military history, and centuries-old lacquer artistry—shifting its focus in recent years to act as a bridge that brings elite, hand-crafted Urushi and Maki-e art directly to the wrists of everyday collectors.

Wancher’s visual signature is entirely original, defined by absolute artistic dial depth, rich natural materials, and strict layout symmetry. The undisputed calling card of their flagship lines is the use of classical Japanese techniques—utilizing complex, multi-layered dials hand-painted with raw Urushi tree sap lacquer, shimmering Raden (mother-of-pearl inlay), Byakudan-nuri, and metallic Maki-e gold powders that can take master artisans months to finish. Rather than overloading their art pieces with heavy branding, they prioritize a minimalist approach with zero dial text, letting the organic textures and light-catching surfaces do the talking.
