Hz Watches is an independent, enthusiast-focused Australian microbrand founded by watch collector and engineer Matt. Operating out of Melbourne, Australia, the brand takes its name from hertz (Hz)—the international unit of frequency—symbolizing both the precise vibrations of timekeeping quartz crystals and the rhythmic beat of mechanical movements. Rejecting inflated microbrand price tags and sterile catalog designs, Hz Watches operates as an accessible, enthusiast-first studio focused on titanium construction, architectural dial execution, and unbeatable value-driven horology.

What truly sets Hz Watches apart is its commitment to lightweight performance materials at an accessible price point. Rather than reserving grade 2 titanium for premium price brackets, Hz crafts its ultra-lightweight, ergonomic cases from titanium, pairing them with scratch-resistant sapphire crystals, screw-down crowns, and reliable mechanical or meca-quartz movements. Their design ethos balances vintage tool-watch functionalism with sharp modern finishing, ensuring each piece wears effortlessly on the wrist during daily wear.

Hz’s visual signature is defined by multi-textured sector dials, high-contrast typography, and thoughtful proportioning. The brand is distinguished by its crisp brushed case finishing, recessed dial chapters, and custom handset designs featuring vibrant accents like red-tipped seconds hands. Their layouts prioritize instant legibility and depth, utilizing layered dial rings, applied indices, and heavy applications of Swiss Super-LumiNova across the hands and hour markers to deliver a distinct, highly readable aesthetic.

Hz make some great looking grab and go quartz watches. The one that really stands out for me is the white dialed Hz.03 It looks so clean but the small second earth dial really makes the watch interesting, and a perfect dress watch choice.
