Luthier

Luthier is an independent British microbrand founded by real-life design engineer and musician Ash. Born out of a desire for a clean, minimalist timepiece that subtly reflected a personal obsession with guitars. Luthier operates as a tightly curated, design-first homage to the art of stringed instrument craftsmanship (the word “luthier” meaning a maker of stringed instruments), transforming classic musical silhouettes into a wearable, horological art form.

Luthier’s visual signature is defined by absolute minimalist restraint, high-contrast symmetry, and deeply clever integration of musical details. The undisputed calling card of the brand is its custom 12 o’clock index—a beautifully stylized, polished metal logo based on the single-cutaway body shape of the legendary Gibson Les Paul electric guitar, with the instrument’s neck extending downwards to form the index itself. Shunning all dial clutter, the brand completely omits brand names, model text, numbers, and depth ratings. The dials prioritize vast negative space with eleven razor-thin polished stick markers and slender, elongated matching hands, while the sides of the high-polished 316L stainless steel cases feature a single engraved line wrapping around the entire circumference to break up the visual profile.
